Sept 17 (Friday) - Happy Constitution Day!

constitution_day.jpgThe first full week of school was like a whirlwind. Students in my class were introduced to a brief geography unit and was quizzed on the 50 states. It is so important to know the geography of our nation before we can truly appreciate and understand it's history. I hope the students in my class will not forget where each state is after the quiz because we will be referring back to it throughout the year! Perhaps the most exciting day was today, its Constitution Day! Every Sept. 17th, students across this country learn about the importance of the United States Constitution, the highest law of our land! Almost all the students were rocking out in patriotic outfits (red, white, and blue) and the celebration was on! Teachers throughout the building were quizzed by students about the Constitution. I crack a big smile every time I hear shouts of "HAPPY CONSTITUTION DAY!" ringing in the hallways. What a great way to end a long week!

Sept 08 (Friday) - Keep Organized.

The first week of school was only two days but I can already tell that it will be a great year! Most students are attentive and though they are getting use to the changes from 6th grade, many of them are doing very well with getting to class on time, participating in class, and asking questions. One thing I noticed was that students need to work on their organization - keeping all worksheets in the right section, bringing home what they need for homework, and also not leaving work in their locker. You will be successful in my class if you stay organized! Let me know if you need help. Congratulations on a good start to a promising year in Social Studies. Enjoy your long weekend!
